The Great People Behind the Good Work of Going Green

50 years from the first Earth Day celebration feels like a momentous occasion, one that should be spent talking about our progress as a planet. But we’d actually like to take this moment to talk about the people that work everyday to make our world a safer + cleaner space than it was yesterday. This Earth Day we encourage you to send some love to your favorite activist, think about giving to a cause that’s fighting for your human right to health, or just take a moment to learn from these experts who have poured their lives into their work because they care about you so much. This year we celebrate the real reason we’re doing as good as we are: the people behind the passionate action.

We can’t start this list with anyone other than our fearless leader Amy King. A career of supporting an array of industries in their work to creating healthy environments for their users, from the production sets to film festivals to coworking spaces, Amy has created a space that’s designed for everyone, not just those doing good and green work, to thrive. Connect with Amy here.

Anna Clark’s career of activism, journalism, and business development has helped countless of individuals and organizations shift their standards and spread vital impact. Check out her writing, peek at her latest project Heirloom Digital + connect with Anna’s impact here.

Brandy Michele Adams is dedicated to shifting the fashion industry into the sustainability space. From working with artists to manufacturers, Brandy is making waves in the eco world with leaders like BioGlitz to Jeremy McKane.

Breanna Cooke has been an integral part of Dallas’s growing Citizen’s Climate Lobby, DFW chapter - teaching individuals how to lobby + educating the community on the realities of climate change. Connect with the CCL DFW crew here.

Circle Terra is run by the incredible Female Founder Kelly Freeman. Kelly has jumped right into action this past month, knowing that restaurants and public spaces need a clean option for disposable products. (If you’d like to try her products out in person, we’ll be using her products throughout 2020 in partnership with Turn Compost commercial composting!)

Downwinders at Risk never slows down, in fact, this crew is working harder then ever. This group is made of a jaw-dropping community led by some of our favorite people: Jim Schermbeck, Evy Mayo & Misti O’Quinn. Ever thought about the air pollution going on in DFW? This group knows exactly what’s up + is a reason your air is as clean as it is. These are the people fighting for everyone’s right to breathe easy.

GGOArchitects are the brains behind 1808’s adaptive reuse, shifting our HQ’s building from an abandoned warehouse with a collapsed roof to a living lab and community coworking space. This was not their first rodeo - as one Texas’ first + leading green architecture firms, founder Gary Olp and his team has seen Pizza Huts become Coffee Labs and abandoned banks become fitness studios. They believe the greenest building is one that’s already built, and we couldn’t agree more. Check out their work + connect with their team here.

Jeff Corkran is the man behind Takka - the firm that has supported environmental leaders launching vital change across the globe. From supporting green cleaning with Meliora, supporting Unschool’s Founder, to being one of our greatest advisors, we honestly look for any excuse to celebrate Jeff and the work he has done behind the scenes for decades to create sustainable solutions for every industry. Connect with Jeff + his work here.

Kendra Wiley launched Corporation Well this year + we couldn’t be more excited for her! With her expertise with national standards and environmental practices, she supports businesses in their sustainability goals + growth. Connect with Corporation Well here + #femalefounder Kendra Wiley here!

Turn Compost has changed our lives for the better this year - we have already begun to divert 10% of our trash thanks to them, and we’re just one business in the rapidly growing community they are cultivating. They are taking DFW by storm with their support of individuals to organizations finding ways to cut their trash to helping establish gardens across the Metroplex. Connect with Turn here.

Tricia Loe has been a leader in DFW’s building community for decades, leading the local USGBC chapter in bringing industry standards + the impact on their health to the community. Check out her education + consulting here.
